Red and White Quilts 46, 47, 48 from Virtual Quilter

Two fabrics, 9P blocks, and lots of space to show off some quilting.

My favourite for today is the one above.

I like the blank spaces in all of these … but then I always like space to feature quilting motifs.

EQ 9x9s 83, 84 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting design.

All the blocks are basic Nine Patch designs in a straight setting.

This project file is a long way from running out … I added three more designs when I picked these for today’s offering.

(Make that four, and if I play just a little while longer it will have 300 designs.)

Vivienne’s Star Quilt 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Intricate blocks, but all straight seam piecing, and using the background fabric for some of the pieces to create the border. The first design is really a pieced medallion … a central block with three borders.

I love the second design.

EQ 9x9s 80, 81, 82 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting! Take some simple 9 Patch blocks, mix them up, add some narrow sashing, and it is interesting to see what happens.

Love the second one …

… and love the sentre of the last one too.

Log Cabin Plus 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 from Virtual Quilter

This project file features the traditional Log Cabin block in the usual dark and light colours, plus blocks with all dark or all light fabrics.

The project file hasn’t been opened for years, and it is time to start dusting off the 150 designs in there that have not been seen since I was playing with those three colour variations of the block up to mid 2018.

With such a limited number of block designs it always amazes me how many designs are possible, and being Log Cabin blocks they are one of the most basic blocks designs to ...

Irish 9 Patch 1, 2, 3 from Virtual Quilter

This is just a recolouring of the Irish 9P project file … the old colours were pretty dull!

Nothing like a bit of green to freshen things up.

Love the second design!

The blocks are simply Nine Patch, nine squares, usually four light and five dark, which form a Single Irish Chain with alternate plain blocks. However, I have placed the dark fabrics in different places in most blocks, and used more or less of the dark than the usual five squares. If you sort your scraps from light to dark, put those in the middle back into the scrap basket ...

9 Patch Night Vision 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

In this series I am trying to make it look like two blocks, created by choosing nine patch blocks with the corner squares solid, then adding a quarter of a four patch design to that corner square. The first design works well, but it would be a bit difficult to piece the two blocks into a quilt top.

The concept is not easy to see in the second design, partly because some blocks do not have the nine patch elements. I have just worked out that quilting lines could be used to show where the seams lines joining those nine ...

Tangled Irish Chain 37, 38 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

Amazing what can happen when you mix up Single Irish Chain, Double irish Chain and Triple Irish Chain blocks!

Autumn Daze 75, 76 from Virtual Quilter

Two designs from one of my favourite project files today.

Not too sure about the blue … partly because it is not my favourite colour … but I think it would look better with more blues amongst the border scraps.

My 8 Blocks 44, 45, 46 from Virtual Quilter

This series was one of the early ones using original design blocks, and before I really got into modifying blocks … but there are a few modifications in the designs.

The second one does have a modification …

… the third one has two modifications of one block.

I think I need to play with the colouring a bit, but I can see potential for a very interesting quilt in this one.

Log Cabin Quilting 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 from Virtual Quilter

Not very inspiring colours, but interesting designs, including quilting motifs.

This is another project file about to be retired … I still have some blocks to sort in my Block Library, then I will start using the sorted blocks to start new projects, some of them with new blocks, and new colours.

Not an intersting setting for a Log Cabin quilt, but an interesting setting to show off some quilting on a Log Cabin quilt.

I like the one above.

Last one for today, and from this project file … and it is my favourite for today.

More Log Cabin designs next ...
